Mindful Eating for Diabetes Training

Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating for Diabetes Facilitator Training will prepare you to offer a comprehensive diabetes education curriculum* based on mindful eating principles.

* The Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating for Diabetes Program is a written curriculum based on current evidence and practice guidelines. It consists of six 90-minute group sessions (a total of nine hours) which incorporate the AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors™. This curriculum for people with Type 2 Diabetes may be used to provide Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) services as part of an accredited program. It was designed to meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education NSDSME Standard 6: Curriculum.

Mindful eating puts the self into diabetes self-management! Each of the six sessions covers four aspects of diabetes care:

Think: Conscious decision making using the Mindful Eating Cycle, an effective cognitive-behavioral model used to build awareness and decision-making at critical points in diabetes self-care.

Care: Education about diabetes self-management and prevention of complications using a gentle, compassionate, curiosity-inspiring approach.

Nourish: Nutrition from a nonrestrictive, all-foods-fit perspective utilizing our popular Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabetes Plate model.

Live: Physical activity that is enjoyable and can be integrated into daily life.

Bonus! Live Training with Michelle & Megrette

Participate in LIVE Diabetes Counseling and Facilitation Training with program co-creators Michelle May MD and Megrette Fletcher MEd, RD, CDE on Mondays, March 4 to April 8, 2019 from 11:00 – 12:00 pm PST (sessions will also be recorded).


They’ll share their experience teaching the concepts from Eat What You Love, Love What You Eating with Diabetes. This conversation will get your creative juices flowing and excited to offer the Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating for Diabetes Program. Each training webinar will review a workshop and provide practical tips to enhance your effectiveness by highlighting essential teaching points. The sessions are live so you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and share your experiences.
